I spend time outdoors feeling and understanding the rhythm of nature, exploring the connection and disconnection of people with their natural environment seeking permanence in an impermanent world.
I see the clay as a starting point, that can lead to many things, to everything, with a long history behind it.
I grew up believing in the magic of the woods and seeing shapes in the ripples of water. I still do!
My wheel thrown functional ware and bespoke pieces from my 'Beachware ' collection, hold vIsions of light, blues, greens and the pebbly beaches off East Cork and are also infused with local clay.
I dig clay from various locations near my home, creating vessels that form a collection called ‘ Echoes of my landscape’. It is a unique collaboration between me and my environment .
I am currently working on my beachware bottles, studying form , letting an established process of making them develop further organically.
Echoes of My Landscape
I have been collecting clay samples in East Cork over the last eleven years.
Exploring and making sense of the deep connection we have with our land, our home.
A collection of ceramic forms created from digs of clay in East Cork.
This continuous project is a collaboration between me and my landscape.
Taking clay and seizing the opportunity to create a new form, clay that already has a long history, a story of its own.
Where it was once part of rock formations, enduring erosions bringing it to a point where I gather up the pieces and join the tale.
The earliest dig was in East Ferry, the latest was last week in Ballywiling beach and there has been everything in between!
